Anchors is for boys aged between 5 and 8 years old. We meet on Friday evenings between 6.30 and 7.45 pm at St. Andrews’ Methodist Church.
We currently run the Anchors and Junior Sections together for practicality reasons. This does not affect the activities and award schemes since they are very similar and just as much fun at any age.
The Leader in charge of the Anchors is Michael Payne supported by Angela Bloomquist.
Anchor Boys is about:
- having fun
- making friends
- enjoying lots of activities
- trying new things
We have lots of fun doing different activities which include making things, crafts, music, games, sports, stories, going on visits, making friends and more.
All of this is done as part of a balanced programme that is separated into five different zones:
Body - fit for fun
Mind - think and do
Spirit - God and me
Community - me and my world
Creativity - make and do
As from Friday 2nd July the subs will be as follows:
Anchors and Juniors £2 per boy.
Company and Seniors £3 per boy.
This is the first time we have had to raise the price of subs in many years and we still remain reasonably priced.
As we head towards Remembrance Day and Remembrance Sunday, we recognise that things will be different this year, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. At this time, we would normally be preparing to meet together on Remembrance Sunday in our respective Churches for a service and/or joining with our communities to participate in public parades or services at local war memorials.
Unfortunately, this year we will not be able to do what we have always done, with the majority of public parades and services being cancelled or taking place with restricted numbers or virtually.

Please note that to help things run as smoothly as possible the Friday evening Zoom times have been adjusted slightly. They are as follows:
Anchor Boys: 6.40pm – 7.15pm
Junior Section: 7.15pm – 7.55pm
Company & Senior Lads: 7.50pm – 9.30pm
Thanks for all the Boys (and parents) who joined in on our first meeting back since March 20th. Ok, it wasn’t at the church but It was on Zoom. It was our first time, so we did have a few tech and timing issues but it got better as the evening progressed.

Why not take a moment to visit the #BBATHOME section of the national Boys Brigade website. There are 100’s of free activities that you can download. There are activities for young people of all ages to do under the supervision of their parent/carer. Choose from 100’s of activities and download the free worksheet to keep yourself entertained until Boys Brigade can resume normal meetings again.
We are putting plans together to launch our Local BB at Home virtual sessions, using ZOOM. These virtual meetings will be on a Friday evening. The times are as follows;
Anchor Boys: 6.40pm to 7.20pm
Junior Section: 7.20pm to 8.15pm
Company & Seniors: 8.15pm to 9.15pm

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, 3rd Basingstoke Boys Brigade will be unable to meet in person for the time being. So we have launched a new website and will be preparing to meet virtually in the near future.

At 3rd Basingstoke Boys Brigade, we are currently unable to meet together in person due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. However, we are currently working on putting together an online program to enable us to meet virtually. We will provide more information and updates as soon as it is available.
Everything an Anchor Boy does helps them to develop and to think for themselves, in a safe environment.
Our experienced Leaders are DBS checked and will make every effort to ensure your child’s’ safety. See our Information for Parents/Guardians section for more details.
The Anchors Activity Programme provides an informal award scheme. This means boys will gain their awards as they take part in the usual programme activities.
The first award is the Green Activity Badge which requires 12 activities and is usually awarded at age 5/6.
The second award is the Red Activity Badge which requires 18 activities and is usually awarded at age 6/7.
The third award is the Blue Activity Badge which requires 18 activities and is usually awarded at age 7/8.
In order to get all 3 awards a boy needs to complete a total of 48 activities over 3 years. It does not matter what age your child joins at since they will join in with others their same age and participate at their own level. There is no judgment about how well they have done, all that is required is to join in and try their best.
In addition, Anchor Boys will earn a service badge which shows how many years they have been a member for. An Anchor Boy can earn up to a maximum of 3 years service.
We are a uniformed organisation and do expect our members to wear their full clean uniform every week. Anchor Boys wear a red pullover and blue polo shirt which is supplied to you by us. We ask for uniforms to please be returned to us when it has been outgrown or the member leaves.
In addition, members are required to wear dark trousers (school trousers are ideal), dark coloured socks and black shoes or trainers (no white socks or white trainers please).
